International House has been the bench mark for language teaching and training in Lisbon since 1963. One of the first members of the fledgling International House World Organisation, IH Lisbon quickly established itself in the forefront of teacher training: offering the revolutionary International House Certificate and then – after this qualification was adopted by the Royal Society of Arts and, later, by the University of Cambridge – the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). Apart from CELTA, we offer a broad range of training and development courses and run a Teachers’ Centre for teachers who enjoy discussion and debate in English.
In 2017, we joined forces with International House Torres Vedras and moved into new premises in Alto dos Moinhos. As the IHTVL team, we pride ourselves on the quality of what we do and the care with which we do it. We are proud members of the International House World Organisation (IHWO).
We are an official examination centre for Cambridge Assessment and offer regular sessions of all of the Mainsuite exams: Key, Preliminary, First, Advanced and Proficiency. We also arrange sessions of the YLE exams in primary schools, on request.
We offer English courses in companies and private schools, as well as exam preparation and adult courses in our own well-equipped classrooms.

IHWO History
International House is one of the largest and oldest groups of language schools in the world. Founded in 1953, we are a global network of 160 language schools in more than 50 countries. Schools in the network teach English, Spanish, German, French and a wide variety of other languages. Across our network, IH schools train about half of all CELTA graduates in the world. We have well over 200,000 students, and our schools employ in excess of 5,800 teachers.
We also develop and offer a suite of online teacher training courses for teachers who want to invest in their continued professional development or specialise in a particular area of interest.
